APC Integrates Opposition Leaders into Tinubu's Re-election Campaign Council
In a strategic move to bolster support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, the APC has welcomed key opposition figures into its campaign council, despite internal resistance. The inclusion of governors from the PDP, Accord, and APGA highlights a significant shift in political alliances as the election approaches.

In a notable shift in political strategy, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) to incorporate prominent opposition figures, aiming to strengthen President Bola Tinubu's bid for re-election in the upcoming January 16, 2027 presidential poll. This unprecedented coalition, which includes influential governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is seen as a tactical maneuver to ensure a smooth campaign process.
Among the key appointments, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a notable figure in the PDP, has been designated as the coordinator for the campaign in Rivers State and the FCT. Similarly, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State from the Accord party will lead efforts in his state, while Chukwuma Soludo from APGA will coordinate activities in Anambra State. These appointments reflect a concerted effort by the APC to unify various political factions in a bid to consolidate electoral support.
Despite facing significant push-back from within the party, the APC has moved forward with this inclusive strategy, suggesting a commitment to forging alliances that transcend traditional party lines. The revised campaign council also sees the inclusion of former Gombe State governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, who will serve as an adviser, alongside media strategist Obafemi George. Senator Abdulaziz Yari has retained his role as the Director-General of the campaign, supported by former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, as Deputy Director-General for Mobilization.
“The Rainbow Coalition has come to stay,” said Wike, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among diverse political entities to achieve a common goal. This sentiment underscores the evolving dynamics of Nigerian politics as parties seek to adapt to the changing electoral landscape.
This strategic realignment not only reflects the APC's tactical approach to the elections but also signals a broader trend of political pragmatism in Nigeria, where alliances may be essential for electoral success. As the 2027 elections draw nearer, the effectiveness of this coalition will be closely observed by political analysts and the electorate alike.
