Sly Ezeokenwa, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has made a compelling argument for why the South-East must align with President Bola Tinubu's administration. In a recent interview on Arise News, Ezeokenwa defended the controversial decision of Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, to support the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 elections, despite facing allegations of anti-party activities.

Ezeokenwa clarified that Soludo's alignment with Tinubu is not merely a personal endorsement but a strategic necessity for the South-East region. He noted, “Once you become the leader of a party, the Constitution imposes certain obligations and responsibilities on you. In a multi-party democracy such as ours, coalitions are inevitable.” This statement underscores the complexity of Nigeria's political landscape, where over 22 parties operate, each representing diverse ethnic and religious interests.

The APGA Chairman further addressed concerns regarding the implications of Soludo's actions for the party and the electorate. He argued that the necessity of forming alliances is critical, especially for presidential candidates who must meet constitutional thresholds for election. Ezeokenwa emphasized that the South-East's alignment with the central government is crucial for the region's political and economic growth.

“Coalitions are essential in Nigeria’s multi-party democracy; without them, meaningful progress can be challenging,” Ezeokenwa stated.

The political dynamics in Nigeria are shifting as parties prepare for the upcoming elections. Ezeokenwa's insights reflect a broader understanding of the need for strategic collaboration, even amid potential backlash from party loyalists concerned about loyalty and identity. His remarks suggest that the APGA's future may depend on how effectively it navigates these complex political waters.
