Charismatic Bishops Conference Endorses Tinubu for 2027 Re-election

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The announcement was made by the President-General of the conference, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, during the organization’s 2026 synod held on Wednesday.

Archbishop Kawas articulated that the endorsement stems from a thorough assessment of Tinubu's administration, highlighting that he has steered clear of nepotism in his appointments. Despite the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket under which Tinubu contested the 2023 election, Kawas praised the president for his efforts in promoting Christian leadership, stating, “He did not only appoint at the national level; he also supported the emergence of Christian governors to be the majority in Nigeria.”

Furthermore, the Archbishop commended the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for appointing a born-again Christian and preacher of the gospel as its national leader for the first time. He remarked, “Also, for the first time, the ruling party appointed a born-again Christian and preacher of the gospel to be the national leader of the party,” reinforcing the party’s commitment to Christian values in governance.

As a show of solidarity, the bishops pledged to continue their support for Tinubu through prayers and advocacy, focusing on initiatives aimed at Nigeria's development. Kawas concluded, “We are here today to reassure him of our solid support; we are standing with him in prayers and advocacy for the good programmes he has brought forth for the liberation of Nigeria.”
