In a surprising turn of events, David Silva, the iconic former midfielder of Manchester City and the Spanish national team, has announced his return to professional football at the age of 40. Silva, who hung up his boots in 2023 after a serious injury during pre-season training with Real Sociedad, is set to join Hong Kong Premier League club Sha Tin. His comeback reflects both his enduring passion for the game and his desire to contribute to the football scene in Asia.

Silva's illustrious career includes significant achievements, such as winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup and two UEFA European Championships with Spain. During his decade-long tenure at Manchester City, he secured four Premier League titles and left an indelible mark, scoring 60 goals and earning a statue outside the Etihad Stadium in recognition of his contributions.

In an enthusiastic announcement via Instagram, Silva expressed his excitement about moving to Hong Kong, stating, “I’m so excited to go to Hong Kong and enjoy the local culture, the food in Sha Tin and, of course, football in Hong Kong.” His eagerness to embrace the local culture highlights his commitment to making a positive impact both on and off the pitch.

Sha Tin FC, currently positioned eighth in the Hong Kong Premier League, is looking forward to Silva's arrival as he prepares to join squad training and regain his match fitness. The club confirmed that Silva is expected to settle in and train before making his anticipated debut in the upcoming match against Hong Kong Football Club on October 18.

“David Silva will be in Hong Kong soon to settle in, link up with squad training, and build up to peak match fitness before making his pitch debut,” the club stated.
