Edo Governor Okpebholo Defends Economic Reforms amid Fuel Price Comparisons

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has publicly supported the economic reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu's administration. Speaking at the 'Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road' event in Edo State, he called on Nigerians to remain patient during this challenging period of reform, asserting that the long-term benefits will soon be realized.

Okpebholo articulated his perspective through a metaphorical comparison to an airplane. He stated, "When a plane is taking off, do you see them serving food? They will never give you food until that seatbelt is released. That means on a cruising level. That is when they will start serving food." He reassured attendees that Nigeria is on the path to achieving a stable economic environment, which he believes will allow for greater prosperity and comfort for its citizens.

In a bid to contextualize the economic situation in Nigeria, the governor drew comparisons between local fuel prices and those in the United Kingdom. After a recent visit to London, he noted the stark difference in costs, stating, "Let me tell you, after conversion, it’s about 3,000-something for one litre of fuel." His remarks aimed to underscore the challenges faced by Nigerians while also highlighting the global economic landscape.
