In a bold initiative to alleviate the financial burden on commuters, the Ekiti State government has announced a 50% reduction in transport fares, coinciding with the launch of 15 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. Governor Biodun Oyebanji, while unveiling the project, emphasized that this development not only marks a significant milestone for the state's transportation sector but also reflects the administration's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
The introduction of the CNG buses is particularly noteworthy as it aligns with President Bola Tinubu's directives aimed at reforming and modernizing public transportation in Nigeria. During the announcement, Governor Oyebanji highlighted that the initiative is designed to provide affordable and efficient transport options, making it easier for citizens to navigate their daily commutes.
“This is a historic moment for Ekiti as it coincides with both our Independence Day and the 30th anniversary of our state’s creation,” Oyebanji stated. He further noted that the government's focus is on sustainable transport solutions that not only reduce costs but also promote environmental sustainability through the use of cleaner energy sources.
Residents of Ekiti have expressed optimism about this new development, viewing it as a much-needed relief amidst rising living costs. The deployment of these buses is expected to significantly improve public transportation accessibility, thereby contributing to the overall economic growth of the state.
“We are committed to ensuring that our people have access to affordable transportation. This is just the beginning of our efforts to transform Ekiti into a model for others,” Governor Oyebanji added.
