She underscored the necessity for purposeful airport modernization that resonates with the realities faced by millions of Nigerian passengers. Nigeria's unique linguistic and cultural diversity presents significant challenges for airport modernization efforts. With passengers hailing from over 250 different language communities, Mrs. Onabanjo-Kuku highlighted that the modernization strategy must be holistic, accounting for varying levels of digital literacy and accessibility needs. She stated, “Our aim is to implement fit-for-purpose, user-centric solutions that cater to the diverse demographic profiles of our passengers.” This approach intends to enhance the overall travel experience for everyone, regardless of age or background.
In her discussion during the panel session titled “Defining the Airport of the Future—Technology, Partnerships and People,” she outlined several key priorities that will shape Nigeria’s airport ecosystem. A significant focus will be on establishing a stronger connection between revenue generated at airports and reinvestment into critical aviation infrastructure. This initiative aims to ensure that passenger-related charges serve their intended purpose, primarily enhancing aviation security and improving service delivery.
FAAN’s vision is set against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving global aviation landscape, where technological advancements and passenger expectations are continuously changing. By prioritizing partnerships and leveraging innovative technologies, FAAN is committed to reshaping Nigeria's airports into world-class facilities that reflect the nation's aspirations and meet the needs of all its citizens.
