IPOB Calls on South-East Residents to Reconsider Support for APC Amid Nnamdi Kanu's Ongoing Legal Struggles
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged the South-East region to withdraw its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in light of the prolonged delay in hearing Nnamdi Kanu's appeal. Kanu, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism in 2025, has faced significant legal challenges as his appeal remains unaddressed since February.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong call for the South-East region to reconsider its backing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to ongoing frustrations surrounding the appeal of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism in November 2025 by the Federal High Court in Abuja, has seen his legal appeal languish without a hearing since February of this year.
IPOB's statement reflects growing discontent among supporters regarding the lack of progress in Kanu's legal case and what they perceive as a failure of the APC government to address their grievances effectively. The group's spokesperson emphasized that the delay in Kanu's appeal hearing is not just a legal issue but a significant political and social concern for the people of the South-East.
“We cannot continue to support a party that disregards the plight of its citizens, especially when their leader's fundamental rights are being trampled upon,” the spokesperson stated.
The call to withdraw support for the APC comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where many residents feel marginalized and unheard by the federal government. The IPOB has long advocated for greater autonomy and recognition of the rights of the Igbo people, and Kanu's case has become emblematic of these broader struggles.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the IPOB's stance could have significant implications for the APC's influence in the South-East, particularly in upcoming elections. Observers are closely watching how the party responds to these calls and whether it can address the concerns raised by Kanu's supporters to avoid further erosion of its base in the region.
