Labour Party Distances Itself from Former Spokesperson's Legal Action Against UNN

The Labour Party (LP) has publicly distanced itself from a former spokesperson who has taken legal action against the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) concerning the academic credentials of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The individual's lawsuit, which has garnered attention, calls into question the legitimacy of Obi's educational qualifications, specifically a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy issued in 1984.

According to the former spokesperson, he sought a certified true copy of Obi's certificate using the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act, but claims that UNN declined his request. This legal move has sparked controversy, drawing the party into a debate over transparency and accountability regarding the educational backgrounds of political candidates.

In a statement, the Labour Party emphasized that the actions of the former spokesperson do not reflect the official stance of the party. They reiterated their commitment to supporting Obi and his candidacy, while also urging party members to focus on the core issues facing Nigeria rather than engaging in potentially damaging legal disputes.

“The party does not endorse the actions of the former spokesperson and wishes to clarify that this lawsuit is a personal matter,” the LP stated in its official communication.
