Makinde Refutes Wike's Claim of Presidential Funding for Oyo Airport Upgrade

In a recent statement, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has strongly refuted assertions made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding financial backing from President Bola Tinubu for the Ibadan airport upgrade. Wike claimed during a television appearance that Tinubu had allocated N50 billion to support Makinde's initiative to enhance the airport's status to international standards, a statement that has sparked controversy in the political arena.

Addressing the issue during a town hall meeting in Katsina organized by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Makinde categorically denied Wike's assertions, emphasizing that the airport upgrade is solely funded by the Oyo State Government. “The President did not give N50 billion to me or to Oyo State to upgrade the Ibadan Airport,” he stated, underlining that the project is financed 100 percent with state resources.
