NOA Defends Its Position on Learner Identification Number Amid NANS Claims

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a statement to clarify its role concerning the controversial Learner Identification Number (LIN) initiative, following allegations from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that the agency has overstepped its mandate. In remarks made by the Director-General of the NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the agency emphasized that it is not the originator or the implementing authority for the LIN project, which aims to enhance educational data management and improve the learning experience for students across Nigeria.

The LIN initiative has been a subject of debate among various stakeholders in the education sector, with NANS expressing concerns about the potential implications of the agency's involvement. Issa-Onilu reassured the public that the NOA’s role is strictly to promote awareness and understanding of government initiatives, thereby facilitating better communication between the government and the citizenry.

“We are here to support and disseminate information about government policies and programs, not to take on roles that do not fall within our jurisdiction,” Issa-Onilu stated. He urged students and other stakeholders to engage with the appropriate authorities for any concerns regarding the LIN initiative.
