The National Teachers' Institute (NTI) has successfully resolved a strike action initiated by its centre managers on October 12, 2023, over the non-payment of honoraria. Following extensive negotiations with the institute's management, an agreement has been reached, allowing the managers to resume their duties effectively.
The strike, which garnered significant attention, highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by educational institutions in Nigeria regarding the timely compensation of staff. The centre managers expressed their dissatisfaction over the delayed honoraria, which they deemed essential for their operational effectiveness and morale.
In a statement following the conclusion of negotiations, a representative from the NTI management expressed gratitude for the patience and understanding shown by the centre managers during the strike. "We are committed to ensuring that all outstanding payments are settled promptly, and we value the contributions of our centre managers to the education sector," the representative stated.
“This agreement marks a significant step towards fostering a better working relationship between the management and the staff at NTI,” a spokesperson for the centre managers remarked.
The resolution of this strike action not only restores normalcy within the institute but also underscores the necessity for consistent dialogue between educational authorities and staff to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
