Akinbola Hammed Rotham, the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ogun State for the upcoming 2027 elections, has officially withdrawn his legal challenge against Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, widely known as Yayi. This decision, which pertains to Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/135/2026, reflects Rotham's commitment to prioritizing the collective interests of the Ogun West region over personal political aspirations.
During a press conference held in Abeokuta, Rotham articulated that his choice to withdraw the suit was motivated by the need to foster unity and collaboration within Ogun West, a district that has historically awaited its turn to govern the state for approximately 50 years. He noted, “My decision to withdraw was taken strictly in the best interest of the Ogun West agenda and the future of Ogun State.”
Rotham further described his relationship with Senator Yayi as one of brotherhood, urging that their political rivalry should not impede the progress of Ogun West. He stated, “Senator Yayi and I are both sons of Ogun West and contestants in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election. I strongly believe that the collective aspiration of Ogun West to produce a governor of Ogun State, after 50 years of waiting, is greater than any individual ambition.”
This strategic withdrawal is seen as a significant move towards consolidating support for the Ogun West agenda, allowing candidates to focus on shared goals rather than divisive legal battles. As the political landscape evolves in Ogun State, the emphasis on unity among candidates may play a crucial role in shaping the upcoming gubernatorial election.
