OPay Clarifies Misconceptions About Account Number Usage
OPay has addressed recent claims that it is replacing phone numbers with standard account numbers, clarifying that the confusion stems from its My BizPayment feature. This feature provides users with distinct account numbers specifically for business transactions, maintaining the integrity of phone number usage for personal accounts.

In a recent announcement, OPay has sought to clarify misunderstandings regarding its payment processing features, particularly the claims suggesting that the company is supplanting phone numbers with standard account numbers. The confusion appears to have arisen from OPay’s My BizPayment service, which allows users to generate separate account numbers dedicated to business transactions.
OPay emphasized that while the My BizPayment feature is designed to facilitate easier financial management for businesses, it does not eliminate the use of phone numbers as identifiers for personal accounts. Instead, the service provides users with an additional option to streamline their business dealings without altering their existing personal account setups.
“The My BizPayment feature is intended to enhance the user experience for business transactions, not to replace the existing system of using phone numbers for personal accounts,” an OPay official stated.
This clarification is crucial amidst rising concerns about data management and privacy in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital payment landscape. OPay's commitment to transparency is also seen as an effort to reassure users about the security and functionality of their services, particularly in a market where digital payment solutions are becoming increasingly prevalent.
As OPay continues to expand its offerings, it remains focused on addressing user concerns and enhancing the overall efficiency of its services. The company is dedicated to ensuring that both individual and business users can navigate their financial interactions with confidence.
