In a recent statement from Abuja, High Chief Peter Ameh, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Kogi East, cautioned against premature celebrations among opposition parties following a court ruling that dismissed the David Mark-led National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and nullified Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy. Ameh emphasized the need for unity among opposition factions, suggesting that divisions could be exploited by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ameh articulated his concerns, stating, "The APC, which is the ultimate beneficiary of this judgment, will be happy keeping any party in the opposition weakened. They do not care which party logo you wave. They want us fighting each other so we never notice the real game being played against all of us." He highlighted the dangers of allowing one faction's perceived victory to serve as a weapon against another.

His remarks come at a critical time, as opposition parties face heightened pressure from the APC, which has been accused of capitalizing on the fragmentation within the political landscape. Ameh urged his colleagues to resist the temptation to engage in political infighting, warning that what may seem like a tactical advantage for one group could easily turn against them in the future.

"Before anyone starts dancing, remember: today’s victory for one camp is tomorrow’s weapon against another. The same forces that can erase one candidate or one leadership structure can just as easily turn on yours when it becomes convenient," Ameh added.

As Nigeria approaches critical elections, the call for solidarity among opposition parties is more pressing than ever. Political analysts note that maintaining a united front could be essential in countering the APC's dominance and ensuring a more balanced political discourse in the country.
