Presidency Collaborates with SPRiNG to Enhance Peace Efforts in North Central Nigeria

In a strategic move to address the pressing issue of insecurity in North Central Nigeria, the Presidency has entered into a partnership with the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) Programme. Implemented by Tetra Tech and funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), this initiative is designed to reduce conflict and reinforce the resilience of communities in the region, particularly in the context of climate change adaptation.

The partnership, which spans from August 2026 to March 2027, aims to enhance coordination among various peace actors, state institutions, and development partners, thus fostering sustainable peace and social cohesion. Dr. Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), highlighted that the collaboration will facilitate engagement with communities to address the underlying factors contributing to conflict.

A central element of this partnership is the development of a Peace Initiatives Coordination Dashboard. This innovative tool will enable the mapping and monitoring of peacebuilding actors and initiatives throughout the region, improving visibility and coordination while identifying gaps and opportunities for collaboration. The dashboard is expected to play a crucial role in streamlining efforts toward lasting peace.

Additionally, the SPRiNG Programme will support the establishment of a Knowledge and Learning Hub and a Peace Impact Measurement Framework within the Office. These resources will enhance the documentation of community experiences, enabling a better understanding of the successes and challenges faced in peacebuilding efforts. Technical experts will work closely with the Office to ensure that lessons learned are effectively integrated into future initiatives.

The collaboration signifies a proactive approach to fostering peace in a region grappling with insecurity, aiming not only to mitigate current conflicts but also to build resilience against future challenges.
