Tensions are escalating along sections of the Lagos Coastal Road amid allegations of obstruction by officials from the Lagos State Government against a Federal Government Task Force. Ismaila Alimi, a resident of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, has formally urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in what he describes as an alarming situation impacting the recovery and protection of federal lands.

In a statement dated September 10, 2026, Alimi accused state officials, allegedly acting under the direction of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of attempting to intimidate and undermine the operations of the Federal Task Force. He specifically named several officials, including CSP Shola Jejeloye of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad and Dr. Jide Abiodun, the Governor's Special Adviser on eGIS and Urban Development, as key figures in this alleged obstruction.

The conflict reportedly stems from the Federal Government's assertion that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a federal undertaking, thereby placing responsibility for survey coordination and Right-of-Way enforcement in the hands of federal authorities. Alimi highlighted a troubling incident on September 4, 2026, when Lagos State officials, supported by a substantial police presence, confronted the federal task force, raising concerns about the rule of law and federal authority in the area.

“The activities of the Lagos State officials are not only a direct challenge to federal authority but also a potential threat to the ongoing development of the coastal highway,” Alimi stated.
