Tragedy in Lagos: One Dead as Two-Storey Building Collapses During Demolition

In a tragic incident that unfolded late Thursday night in Lagos, a two-storey building undergoing manual demolition partially collapsed, leading to the death of one individual and the rescue of two others. The collapse occurred at No. 42 Governors Road in the Aboru area of Alimosho Local Government, as confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

According to LASEMA, their emergency response team arrived shortly after receiving a distress call, only to find workers trapped under the debris. Efforts to extricate the victims were swift; two adult males were successfully rescued and administered first aid before being transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. Sadly, another male worker was recovered deceased from the rubble.

As of the latest reports, LASEMA, along with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), continues to conduct recovery operations at the site. The agencies have reiterated the importance of compliance with building regulations, emphasizing the need for developers and construction teams to engage certified professionals, especially in potentially hazardous activities such as demolition.
