Zamfara First Lady Honored as The Sun Newspaper's First Lady of the Year 2026

Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, the First Lady of Zamfara State, has been distinguished as The Sun newspaper’s First Lady of the Year for 2026. The announcement was made by the management of The Sun Publishing Limited, which oversees various publications including Daily Sun and Sporting Sun. The selection process was rigorous and overseen by the Board of Editors, highlighting the significance of her contributions to the community and the nation at large.

Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Sun, conveyed that the award is a recognition of those who are seen as 'Nation Builders'. He emphasized that this year's awardees have made significant impacts through their leadership, innovative actions, and services that contribute to Nigeria’s development and stability.

The formal presentation of the award is scheduled for November 13, 2026, during an elaborate ceremony in Lagos. This date was strategically chosen to precede the general elections set for January and February 2027, allowing for the recognition of outstanding contributions before the electoral period.

“Their actions, leadership, innovations and services have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s development, stability and progress, while inspiring hope for a stronger and more prosperous nation,” stated Ukeh.

As part of the award process, a nomination letter will be presented to Hajiya Lawal on September 17, 2026, marking the beginning of the formal recognition of her achievements. This award not only honors her but also serves to inspire other leaders and citizens in Nigeria.
