Femi Fani-Kayode has threatened to sue the EFCC for detaining his wife and eight month old son on Monday 17th October, 2016.
In a statement, he said his wife took their eight-month-old son along with her to withdraw some money at Access Bank in Ado Ekiti but they were unlawfully detained following orders of the EFCC . He called the government and EFFCC sick and cowardly and said their problems with him should not be extended to his family.
The EFCC however, claimed Mr Fani-Kayode’s accusation was false because the commission had no officers in Ado Ekiti and as such the said arrests could not have occurred.
The commission’s spokesperson said that the account in question had been flagged by the EFCC for a while; hence anybody who tried to withdraw from it was going to be questioned. The commission’s spokesperson explained that following the issues related with the account, the police intended to ask Mr Fani-Kayode’s wife questions about the account and planned to release her on bail before Govenor Fayose intervened.
