The Nigerian Air Force fighter jets have bombed a location of the Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists at Arrinna Ciki in the northern part of Borno State, killing scores of the fighters.
The operation was conducted on Friday and Saturday by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole after the NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform spotted the ISWAP terrorists and their vehicles.
The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said in a statement on Sunday that the terrorists used the location as a “staging area to launch attacks against own forces.”
He said, “The ATF destroyed an ISWAP terrorists’ hideout and neutralised some of their fighters at Arrinna Ciki on the fringes of the Lake Chad. This was accomplished through air strikes, sequel to intelligence reports indicating that the terrorists were using the settlement as a staging area to launch attacks against own forces.
“Accordingly, the ATF scrambled its fighter jets to attack the location, recording successful strikes to immobilise the vehicles. The attack aircraft engaged the identified areas resulting in the destruction of some terrorists’ structures as well as the neutralisation of some of their fighters.”
