The Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, Engr. Babachir Lawal, was found to have been involved in allocating contracts to himself in the tune of N108 million without executing them.
The revelation was contained in a report submitted by Chairman of Ad-hoc Committee on Humanitarian crises in the North East.
Presenting the report on the floor of Senate on Wednesday, Sani said they have investigated massive fraud involving the supply of relief materials, but regretted that the SGF awarded the contract to himself.
“That the Senate do receive the report of the Ad-Hoc Committee in respect of the Motion on mounting humanitarian crises in the North east,” Sani submitted.
Sani further regretted that Babachir Lawal’s company, ‘ Rholavision Engineering Limited’ was a communication and technology firm, but was executing a project of supplies of Tarpaulin to IDPs which he never completed and went ahead to pay himself.
Report showed that the company which was incorporated in 1990 with the Corporate Affairs Commission with objectives with target on Information and Communications had Babachir Lawal as the Director.
It also noted that he quickly resigned his directorship in September, 2016 after the Senate began investigation of financial malfeasance following public complaints.
Sani added that payment for supply of Tarpaulin has been fully made, but items have not been fully delivered.
Meanwhile, Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West Senatorial district has called on the SGF to resign his appointment, noting that he has become a disgrace to APC-led government.
He added that Babachir should make himself available for prosecution.
“Mr. Senate President, Distinguished Colleagues, I am calling for the resignation of SGF with immediate effect because he has become a disgrace,” Dino maintained
There had been reports of massive fraud at IDPs in the North East involving government officials which has led to serious humanitarian crises.
