Amina Ya’u, a 14-year-old girl, has been left with serious gunshot injuries following an attack by suspected armed herders on farmers in Majelisa village, a community situated between Nasarawa and Plateau states. The distressing incident occurred early on November 5, around 6:30 AM, as residents reported hearing sporadic gunfire in the area. Security sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, that troops from Sector 9 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) responded promptly to the alarming situation.

Upon their arrival, the troops discovered Amina with gunshot wounds, while the attackers had already fled the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that the assault stemmed from a disagreement over grazing rights between the herders and local farmers. This conflict, rooted in the struggle for land and resources, has escalated in Nigeria's North-Central region, with this latest attack serving as a troubling reminder of the ongoing violence that plagues these communities.

The quick response of the security forces facilitated the evacuation of the injured girl to the General Hospital in Lafia, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. In light of the attack, military personnel have increased their patrols and security presence in the area to deter any further violence and address the underlying tensions. Furthermore, efforts are underway to engage with local Fulani leaders in an attempt to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects, as security operatives work to stabilize the region.

This incident adds to the growing list of violent clashes in the North-Central area, where disputes between herders and farmers have been a long-standing issue. The Nigerian government continues to grapple with these conflicts as they seek to implement solutions that ensure the safety and security of all communities involved.
