The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has taken a significant step forward by ratifying Chief Francis Bullem as its new substantive state chairman. This decision was made during a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held on Thursday, where the party also expressed unwavering support for its national leader, Nyesom Wike, and endorsed his Rainbow Coalition.
According to the communiqué released by the SEC, which was signed by State Publicity Secretary Mike Ojisi, the committee acknowledged the resignation of the former state chairman, Venatius Ikem, and approved Bullem's nomination in accordance with the PDP Constitution. This leadership transition is expected to bring about a new phase of governance and strategy for the party within the state.
The SEC meeting underscored the party's commitment to supporting Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, highlighting the importance of his leadership in navigating the political landscape. The endorsement of the Rainbow Coalition signifies the party's alignment with Wike's vision for the PDP at the national level.
“We express concern over the incessant attacks on PDP members and other opposition party members while they engage in legitimate political activities across the state,” the communiqué stated. “We condemn these attacks and call for an end to such violence.”
This recent development comes at a time when the political atmosphere in Cross River State is charged, with various parties vying for influence and control. The PDP's new leadership under Bullem aims to strengthen the party's position and ensure the safety and security of its members as they prepare for upcoming political challenges.
