In a tragic turn of events, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reported that no survivors have been recovered from the military aircraft crash that occurred on Monday in Igbokoda, located in the Ilaje Local Government Area. The aircraft, which was on a surveillance mission from Benin to Lagos, lost radio signal around 9:15 a.m., leading to its unfortunate descent into a swampy area adjacent to the Naval Forward Operating Base.

During an interview on Politics Today, a program aired by Channels Television, Aiyedatiwa detailed the grim circumstances surrounding the incident. He stated that only wreckage, including wings, identity cards, and military uniforms, has been found, while the main body of the aircraft remains inaccessible due to its deep entrapment in the swamp. “They saw the wreckage from the wings, some ID cards and uniforms indicating it was a military aircraft,” he explained, emphasizing the ongoing search efforts that have yet to reach the main fuselage.

Local emergency responders, including naval personnel and members of the Amotekun security outfit, were dispatched to the scene immediately after the crash. Despite their quick action, no living individuals have been located in the vicinity of the wreckage. The governor mentioned that the crash site has been cordoned off to facilitate rescue operations, and hospitals in Igbokoda and Okitipupa have been put on high alert, equipped with ambulances for any potential casualties.

As the investigation unfolds, the governor has urged the community to remain patient while search and rescue teams navigate the challenging swamp terrain. The loss of the aircraft, with a total of 32 individuals onboard—25 passengers and seven crew members—marks a somber moment for the state and the military community.
